Near the end of WWII, Japan and America were fighting desperately to try and win the war. Soon however, the American Navy neared the island of Japan. Despite the Americans succeeding the barrelling through the Japanese Navy to get to the island, the American government estimated that casualties would be a quarter of a million. Instead, the United States government has ordered that the two atomic bombs the Americans had developed to be dropped onto Japanese soil. Int he end 105,000 Japanese people died from the atomic bombs. However, was all that necessary? The answer was no. Before the atomic bombs were dropped, there were already telltale signs of the Japanese surrendering. The atomic bombs were actually not required to make the Japanese surrender. If USA had only waited for two to three weeks, the Japanese military would have surrendered. So the atomic bombs were not justified to be dropped.
The effects of the atomic bombs were terrible and horrifying. First of all, 105,000 people were instantaneously killed by the bomb itself and thousands more by the end of the year because receiving deadly amounts of gamma radiation. Also, most of Nagasaki and Hiroshima were utterly destroyed. Rubble and destroyed wooden beams littered the ground, along whoosh the bodies of the victims. In addition, many, many more were homeless and struggled to live. Also, the will of the people were ruined. The Japanese had lost the war and they paid a heavy price for losing. Two of their cities were completely destroyed and many of their friends, neighbours and family members were killed or had suffered the effects of gamma radiation. The effects that the people of japan experienced mentally tore the country apart.
The two historical perspectives look at these incidents completely different. One side of the argument states that the Japanese were not going to surrender and that instead of losing a quarter of a million troops to try and take over the island, they would drop the bombs. The other side said that Japan was already trying to put together a peace treaty. There was evidence that the Japanese were already wanted to surrender since its military is doomed to fall and that makes dropping the atomic bomb unjustified. If the Japanese were already going surrender, then there is no point for the Americans showing off their nuclear weapons.
In the end, the dropping of the atomic bomb was totally unjustifiable. First of all, the destruction caused by the bombs was horrifying and inhumane. It killed over 105,000 people in the instant of the blasts. Also, it completely destroyed two cities in japan that were the centre of the Japanese economy. In addition, the mental conditions of the average citizen after the bomb showed that they were having many mental issues. Furthermore, the Japanese were already ready to surrender, so the dropping of the nuclear bomb, seemed pointless. All in all, the dropping of the atomic bomns were not justifiable.
